Outdoor Activities with Your Dog
While dogs aren’t permitted on most public beaches (unless you’re a local with a permit), there are lots of outdoor spaces that offer plenty of room to walk, run and sniff everything the Emerald Coast has to offer.
If you prefer leisurely strolls near the beach, you can start your day with a coffee and a walk along the Timpoochee Trail. You can hop on and hop off any part of the paved 19-mile path that connects many of 30A’s beach communities.
Or you can go for a nature walk on sandy trails in the dunes and forests. Check out Grayton Beach State Park, Point Washington State Forest and Topsail Hill Preserve State Park where leashed dogs are welcome on the white sand trails and in designated areas. Just don’t forget to bring extra water in case you decide to be out for awhile.
If you and your dog are social butterflies, there are several dog parks where you can let them off leash so they can mingle and play with others. Two of our favorites include:
- Walton County Dog Park (Alaqua Unleashed) – This is a fenced, 2-acre dog park with shady trees and running water.
- Nancy Weidenhamer (Destin) Dog Park – This is a 1.5 acre dog park with benches and water stations available.
Where to Shop with Your Dog
When it’s time for a lunch break, a shopping spree or just a scoop of delicious ice cream, there are several spots along 30A that are perfect for strolling with your dog and popping into dog-friendly stores.
- 30 Avenue in Inlet Beach: This area on the east end of 30A is a great place to walk and shop at some of the region’s best local gems.
- Gulf Place in Santa Rosa Beach: Here you can check out many of the dog-friendly shops and pack a picnic to sit and nosh on the grassy amphitheater (aim for the cooler months since shade is limited).
- Seaside: This community is chock-full of pet-friendly shops and water stations scattered throughout so you don’t have to worry about lugging around a big water bottle.
- 30A Farmers’ Market: Open every Sunday from 9a-1p, you can bring your dog (on leash) and hunt for local gifts and foods for your stay or to take back home.
